Throughout each quarter we’re really busy dealing with the demands of being a business owner.
And – I hope – throughout each week of this quarter, you’ve picked up some tips to make your life easier and make your business more successful.
Remember, ‘what you measure, you can manage’ so make sure YOU measure what really matters. Give this some thought and be sure to identify the key numbers that can help you make the changes to improve your results.
Do you know your KPIs? Your Key Performance Indicators. These will be the numbers that really make the difference for you and your business.
Tip:
- Don’t measure too much – or you’ll be in ‘analysis paralysis’. And of course there is always the danger of not knowing which part to change (AKA: ‘throwing the baby out with the bathwater!)
- Don’t measure too little or you won’t know what to change.
EASY EXAMPLE TO CLARIFY WHAT I MEAN:
Use your car or motorbike as an example – before you set off on a trip you check the tyres, you check your fuel and you check that there are no warning lights. You probably check other things depending on the weather and the length of the trip.
When you look at your business in a similar way it’s easier to identify your key numbers and what really makes a difference. Here are some ideas:
- number of new connections and conversations on social media
- number of new contacts via networking (online or offline/physically)
- number of sales calls
- number of sales meetings
- number of new clients
You also are likely to have other numbers you can manage. Maybe it’s money in and money out – making sure they ensure a profit.
